About Me

I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with over 20 years experience of working with children, families and adults in the NHS who are struggling with a range of emotional difficulties.

I completed my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (DClinPsy) at University College London in 2005.  I also hold a MSc Experimental Psychology (University of Sussex) and BA Combined Honours in Social and Environmental Studies (Liverpool University).

I have worked in both clinical and senior leadership roles across a range of NHS mental health services and government departments.  In more recent years, I have also offered assessment and therapeutic input privately.

I have expertise in working with adults and children who have experienced trauma.  'Trauma' can be any event/s or experience/s that someone is finding hard to make sense of and is struggling to cope with.  Trauma may be a one off event such as an accident, assault or birth trauma.  It also includes experiences such as bullying, neglect, childhood abuse, relationship difficulties, illness and bereavements.   I am trained in a number of therapeutic approaches to support children and adults experiencing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Behaviour Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).

I am passionate about working with children and young people.  Supporting young people develop positive emotional well-being in the early years not only benefits them in childhood, but sets the foundations for good mental health throughout later life.  I love working directly with young people; their humour and honesty keeps me energised and inspired.  Support that I offer to children and young people also often involves working directly with parents and carers who are key to the well-being of any young person.

To work as a Clinical Psychologist in the UK, there is a legal requirement to be registered with the the Health & Care Professionals Council (HCPC) who are responsible for regulating a number of health professionals.  My registration number is PYL 02000.
